What is it?
Young Chamber is a new member offer for schools and colleges from Devon Chamber of Commerce, as part of a pilot project being run by the Accredited Chamber network. Its purpose is to help bridge the gap between businesses and the education sector.
Young Chamber provides a range of different ways in which Chambers of Commerce can help schools tap into the knowledge, skills and experience that local businesses can provide students for them to succeed in the world of work.
As part of Young Chamber membership*, schools will typically benefit from:
- Careers networking events
- Strategic links with local businesses
- Access to mentors
- Talks from local employers
- Access to a pool of potential business governors
- Work inspiration experiences – including visits to workplaces and ‘have a go’ workshops
- Workshops on ‘work readiness’ where students can learn the soft skills they need at work
- Access to local business intelligence
*Product offer will vary by Chamber.
How does it help me?
By signing up to a Young Chamber membership schools will be able to take advantage of the many connections that Chambers have in the local business community.
Students will gain insight into the world of work, and get the chance to learn about the different careers they could have, as well as the routes that they can take to get there. They will also learn what skills - both technical and soft - that they need to pursue a successful career once they leave education.
Best of all, Young Chamber helps schools and colleges meet Ofsted (or relevant school inspectorate) requirements around provision of careers advice, preparation of pupils for employment, and engagement with employers.
How do I find out more?
